Three officers of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces are participating in a specialised Counter-Terrorism and Hostage Rescue Course being conducted in India under the framework of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) from 21 September 2026.
The course forms part of the CSC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, capacity building and operational interoperability among its Member States, particularly in addressing common security challenges in the Indian Ocean region.
The specialised training course provides participating officers with exposure to established procedures, operational concepts and best practices in counter-terrorism and hostage rescue operations. It also provides an opportunity for officers from CSC Member States to engage with one another, exchange professional experiences and strengthen professional and institutional linkages.
Sri Lanka’s participation reflects its continued engagement with the Colombo Security Conclave and its objectives of enhancing practical cooperation in areas including maritime safety and security, countering terrorism and radicalisation, combating trafficking and transnational organised crime, cyber security and protection of critical infrastructure and technology, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
The participation of Sri Lankan Armed Forces officers in the course further contributes to strengthening mutual understanding and professional networks among the security forces of CSC Member States, enhancing collective capacity to respond to emerging security challenges and contributing to a secure, stable and peaceful Indian Ocean region.
The Colombo Security Conclave brings together India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Mauritius as Member States with Bangladesh and Seychelles as Observers, and serves as an important regional platform for practical cooperation and capacity building in addressing shared security concerns in the Indian Ocean region.
