Sri Lanka Navy Ship SLNS Sindurala arrived at Visakhapatnam on 17 September 2026 to participate in the 13th edition of the India-Sri Lanka Bilateral Naval Exercise, SLINEX-2026.
The arrival of SLNS Sindurala marked the beginning of another chapter in the long-standing maritime partnership between the Indian Navy and the Sri Lanka Navy. The ship was accorded a ceremonial welcome by the Indian Navy in keeping with established naval traditions and protocols, reflecting the warmth, mutual respect and professional camaraderie that characterise the relationship between the two navies.
The Harbour Phase, that was conducted in Visakhapatnam from 17 to 19 September, brought together personnel from both navies for a range of professional and social engagements. These included subject matter expert exchanges, cross-deck visits, sports activities, receptions and other professional interactions, providing opportunities to share experience, strengthen personal and institutional bonds, and deepen mutual understanding.
On 20 September, the participating ships proceeded to sea for the Sea Phase of SLINEX-2026. The exercise featured a series of joint maritime training activities designed to enhance operational coordination, interoperability and the exchange of professional expertise between the two navies.
Conducted regularly since 2005, SLINEX has evolved into an important platform for the Indian Navy and Sri Lanka Navy to train together, exchange operational experience and strengthen their ability to work alongside one another at sea.
The participation of SLNS Sindurala in SLINEX-2026 further reinforced the enduring maritime partnership between Sri Lanka and India and contributing to closer cooperation in promoting maritime security, safety and stability in the Indian Ocean Region. This was not only an exercise in maritime cooperation, but a reflection of the enduring friendship and shared commitment that bind Sri Lanka and India across the waters of the Indian Ocean.
